Moviegoers are absolutely enchanted by the return of Tim Burton's whimsical world in "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice". The sequel has not only captured the hearts of fans but also dominated the box office, raking in a whopping $51.6 million in its second weekend. This brings its North American gross to an impressive $188 million, with a global total of $264.3 million. Talk about a spooky success! 🎃
While "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" continues to reign supreme, other films are also making their mark. "Speak No Evil", a horror flick starring James McAvoy, secured the second spot with $11.5 million. This remake of a Danish horror film has been well-received, thanks to its strategic release on Friday the 13th.
In third place, "Deadpool & Wolverine" continues to draw crowds, adding another $5.2 million to its already massive earnings. This Disney and Marvel blockbuster has now amassed $621.5 million in North America and $1.3 billion globally. 🦸♂️
One of the more surprising entries in the top five is the Daily Wire's mockumentary "Am I Racist?". This film, which follows conservative columnist Matt Walsh as he goes undercover as a DEI trainee, earned $4.7 million from just 1,517 theaters. Directed by Justin Folk, this film is a follow-up to Walsh's 2022 exploration of gender ideologies in "What is a Woman?".
Rounding out the top five is "Reagan", starring Dennis Quaid as the former president. This film added another $3 million to its domestic total, bringing it to $23.3 million. Meanwhile, Dave Bautista's action comedy "The Killer's Game" debuted in sixth place with $2.6 million. Despite its dismal reviews, it managed to make a mark.
In limited release, Amazon MGM Studios rolled out the Sundance breakout "My Old Ass", starring Maisy Stella. This coming-of-age movie made $171,242 from just seven theaters and is set to expand nationwide on Sept. 27.
Next weekend, theaters will welcome the Optimus Prime origin pic "Transformers One", but it may be a quiet few weeks at the box office until "Joker: Folie à Deux" hits the big screen on Oct. 4. 🤡
